About the Background Remover
Background Remover cuts the subject out of a photo with an AI model that runs on your own device. People, products, animals and objects all work, and hair and soft edges are kept.
You get a transparent PNG, or the cutout on a white, black or custom color background.
When to use it
Use it for product photos, profile pictures, thumbnails, slides and mockups, or any time you need a subject on a clean or transparent background without opening a photo editor.
How to use the Background Remover
- 1Drop a photo, click to choose one, or paste it with Cmd/Ctrl + V.
- 2Wait for the AI to cut out the subject. The first run downloads the model once.
- 3Drag the divider to compare the original and the cutout.
- 4Keep it transparent or pick a white, black or custom color background, then download the PNG or copy it.

- Is the background remover really free?
- Yes. There are no credits, no sign-up and no watermark, and full-resolution downloads are free.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. The AI model runs on your device, in your browser. Only the model itself is downloaded once, from Hugging Face, and then your browser caches it.
- Why is the first run slower?
- The model (about 40 to 85 MB) downloads the first time you use the tool. After that it's cached, so later images start right away.
- What kinds of photos work best?
- Photos with one clear subject, like a product, a person, an animal or an object, against a background that contrasts with it. Busy scenes with many overlapping objects are harder.
- Can I get a transparent PNG?
- Yes. Transparent is the default; you can also fill the background with white, black or any color before downloading.
